Martin Katz, Doctor of Science, and former Senior Vice President of Pharmaceutical Research exhibits his bronze, wood, and stone sculpture at the gallery. Dr. Katz has a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Science degree, Master of Art, and Ph.D. degree, plus has attended the Stanford Business School Executive Program. Dr. Katz has studied with some of America’s leading sculptors. Martin Katz’s quote,”When I started sculpting, I set myself two goals. First, to achieve the ability to create a high quality, realistic rendition of the human figure from a model. Secondly, to improve my technique and study a broad diversity of subjects. In this second period, I sought to uncover the forces inside the model’s pose and then extrapolate to an exaggeration or dramatization. A third expressionist, abstractive mode arose over time. It is abstractive (not abstract) in that it also explores the planes, concavities and convexities that are conveyed by the figure. This mode has strongly influenced my wood and stone carvings.”
