Joan Firestone’s oil paintings of women are colorful and and powerful in nature. Joan’s quote, “I am fascinated by the moments when something deeper is expressed in the eyes and the mouth, how the body is held, when simple truths are revealed. The strength, vitality and power of women are especially intriguing to me because most women carry them quietly, making them more potent when they emerge. Most of my paintings are about the raw, fierceness of being a woman.” Joan is the former Deputy Director of the Bar Association of San Francisco. In her personal life she has studied mystery school teachings for the past twenty years, exploring dreams, archetypes, the deep feminine, psychology and other methods of understanding and meaning. These studies influence the look and feel of her paintings.
